The short version
- The tools run in your browser. What you type and the files you use never reach us.
- There are no accounts. Google Analytics counts visits and which tools get used, never what you put in them.
- Your browser keeps two small settings for the site, plus Google Analytics’ two cookies.
- Our host, Cloudflare, sees the technical details every website sees, like your IP address.
- Ads from Google, when they’re on, use cookies. You can turn off personalised ads.
- We never sell your information.
Who we are
Mono Mate (monomate.tools) is an independent website based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Mono Mate. You can reach us at hello [at] monomate.tools.
What you put into the tools
Everything you type, paste or drop into a Mono Mate tool is handled by your own browser, on your own device. That includes your text in the word counter, the links, Wi-Fi details and contact details in the QR code makers, the documents you convert to Markdown, and the photos and images you compress, resize or convert. None of it is sent to us or anyone else, and it’s gone when you close the page.
Some tools need extra code to read a file, such as the Markdown converter’s Word and PDF readers and the image tools’ HEIC photo reader. Your browser downloads that code from our site the first time you need it. The file itself still never leaves your device.
When the image tools make a new copy of a photo, the copy leaves out the details cameras save inside it, such as the date, the camera model and the GPS location. Your original file isn’t changed.
What your browser stores
Mono Mate keeps two small settings in your browser’s storage for this site:
mm-phone-region: the country you last picked for a phone number in the contact card QR maker (for example, AU), so it’s ready next time. It stays until you clear this site’s data.mm-mono-hello: a note that Mono has already said hello on this visit, so the logo only hops once. It’s deleted when you close the tab.
Neither is sent to us. You can remove them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser’s settings.
Google Analytics (below) also sets two cookies on this site, _ga and one starting _ga_, so it can tell one visit from the next. They last up to two years. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland don’t get them unless they agree.
What our host sees
Mono Mate is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives the technical details of each visit: your IP address, your browser and device type, the page you asked for and when. It uses them to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. We don’t use them to work out who you are. Cloudflare’s privacy policy has the details.
The site’s fonts are stored on our own site, so loading a page doesn’t contact Google Fonts or any other font service.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages and tools they open, how they found the site, roughly where they are (country and city) and what kind of device and browser they use. It tells us which tools to improve and what to build next.
Google Analytics records the address of each page you open. That never includes what you type or the files you use, which stay in your browser. It reports to us as totals and trends, linked to the random ID in its cookie, never your name or email address. Google says Google Analytics 4 doesn’t log or store IP addresses.
If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, Google Analytics doesn’t set its cookies unless you agree. Without them, the most Google receives is a signal that a page was viewed, with nothing to link one visit to the next.
To opt out anywhere, block cookies for this site, turn on your browser’s tracking protection, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on. Google’s privacy policy explains how Google handles this information.
We also see totals from two other places. Cloudflare’s dashboard shows how much traffic the site gets and from which countries, worked out from the visit details it receives as our host. Google Search Console shows how often our pages come up in Google searches and get clicked, measured on Google’s side, not on this site. Neither tells us who you are.
Advertising
Ads aren’t switched on yet. Until they are, no ad code loads and this section doesn’t apply. It’s here so you know what will change.
Mono Mate is paid for by ads from Google AdSense. Ads appear in labelled boxes, never inside the tools.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings. You’ll still see ads, but they won’t be based on your browsing.
- Other ad companies that Google works with may also use cookies to show ads here. You can opt out of many of them at aboutads.info/choices, or at youronlinechoices.eu if you’re in Europe.
If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you’ll be asked whether to allow personalised ads before any are shown, and you can change your answer later. How Google uses information from sites that use its services explains what Google does with this information.
Google’s ad code also counts page views and ad clicks so it can pay us. We see those as totals in AdSense, not who you are.
We never pass what you type or the files you use to Google or any ad company. The ads themselves load in their own frames, separate from the tools.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we get your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply, keep it only as long as it’s useful for that, and never add you to a mailing list. Email reaches us through Cloudflare, which forwards it, and our email provider.
Children
Mono Mate isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices and rights
- Clear this site’s data in your browser to remove the two stored settings and the analytics cookies.
- Opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s add-on, or by blocking cookies for this site.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser, and turn off personalised ads with the links above.
- Ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it. Since the tools don’t send us anything, this is usually just emails you’ve sent us.
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as Australia’s Privacy Act, the GDPR in Europe and the UK, and state laws in the US may give you these rights and more. Email us with “Privacy” in the subject line and we’ll reply within 30 days.
If you’re not happy with our answer, you can complain to your privacy regulator: in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner; in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU, your country’s data protection authority.
Where information goes
Cloudflare and Google run services around the world, so the technical details above may be handled outside your country. Both have their own safeguards for this, explained in their privacy policies.
Changes to this policy
If anything here changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If it’s a big change, such as a new kind of information being collected, we’ll say so on the site.
